Importance of communication training for employees in Malaysia
In today’s fast paced world, effective communication has become the cornerstone for success. Communication is a skill that can be learned and developed through training. For Malaysian companies multicultural teams are the norm and by having strong communication skills, it becomes the bridge to building better relationships and strong connections.
When a business in Malaysia invests in communication training for their employees, it becomes a strategic investment for them in terms of human capital. It is said that 86% of workplace issues arise because of poor communication and when a company invests in trainings, it helps to reduce communication issues at workplace and thereby helping to achieve more productivity for the company.
As a trainer I also teach people on the NLP communication model and principles whereby it is life changing. I have seen it in my own personal life on how effective the techniques are and how the principles helps you to become a better communicator in all aspects of life. When you communicate better it ushers more opportunities in your life.
I use to be a very shy person and lacked confidence but after learning about communication skills, it really changed my life. Today, I communicate with confidence, I am able to start a conversation with anyone and keep them engaged. I regularly speak to both big and small groups of audiences.
The objective of communication training for employees in Malaysia
In Malaysia, cultural diversity plays an important role in communications whether we are dealing with a client or an employee. There is both indirect and direct communication that is at play especially when it involves a superior. Employees often might not be able to express themselves fully to avoid being critical to their superior and this is indirect communication.
At the workplace harmony is very important so therefore sometimes direct communication is avoided especially when it is related to feedback and so on. However this can be changed by helping employees to understand how to communicate effectively in a way that the message can be conveyed and understood by the other person.
Hierarchical communication is also at play in the workplace this is due to respect for authority and to avoid conflict of interest. What this means is that often communication is one way or one sided and this need to be changed so that effective communication is taking place. Participants are trained on how to achieve this.
Key components of communication training for employees in Malaysia
Participants are taught proven principles to understand what is the preferred communication style and to adjust their style accordingly as they communicate. Not everyone is aware that everyone communicates differently but in the training participants are made aware to it and I help them to look for patterns as they communicate.
Secondly, language can sometime be a barrier especially English being widely used as the standard business language. Although it is widely used the level of proficiency will vary depending on how much English is used in the company itself. So participants are trained on how to construct a sentence, proper grammar and so on.
Thirdly, employees are also trained on how to be courteous to a customer by having proper etiquette as they communicate and to not allow their emotions to influence them but to remain calm and collected especially when dealing with a tense situation or a difficult customer.
Employees are also taught on how to have difficult conversations and what are the principles that they need to follow especially when giving feedback to their team members and to manage conflict effectively. A lot of times conflict happens because there was poor communication that was taking place.
The participants are also trained on public speaking skills. Most of the employees will always be shy and nervous to do public speaking but after attending the training, they become confident and are able to deliver a speech. I teach them on how to become confident and what are the things they need to look at to build confidence in their life.
Conclusion
In my trainings I help to localize the principles and technique more for a Malaysian context whereby there is greater application in the workplace in terms of communications. Participants usually can see how much the training changes the way they communicate. My trainings are backed by testimonials of the participants that have attended my previous training sessions.
