Communication is actually a skill that needs to be learned by everyone who wants to succeed in life. The billionaire investor Warren Buffet talks about how communication skills play an important role when it comes to your future earning power as well as other areas in your life.


What is communication?


Why did Buffet say that? Well to understand better, we need to look at what is communications? Communication is simply the ability to convey your idea or message effectively to another person and making sure that they understood what was conveyed to them.


Much of how we communicate to others, is self learned from childhood. We observed how the adults communicated around us and we kind of followed on from them in terms of how to communicate. However, to be an effective communicator, we need to be trained to understand the important principles and techniques when it comes to communications.



Why communication training is important?


To simply put, when we don’t communicate properly we make way for misunderstandings to happen, conflicts arises in relationships and at other times we might also loose opportunities in terms of business or making a sale. Whatever the case is, it makes us realize that we need to learn to communicate effectively.


In my own life, I have learned how important it is to be able to communicate effectively. Communications is something that I greatly struggled during my college years in fact, I was so shy and lacked confidence in my life. I was determined to learn and develop myself and today I train others on communications.

What is communication training? Communication training is a program that is designed to help individuals to better convey their ideas and messages across as well as to be able to listen effectively all the while being able to engage others in a more meaningful way.


I have trained many people on communication skills. Undoubtedly all the participants have realized the value that this training brings to them because the training is not only based on theory but it gives the participants an opportunity to practice what they have been trained on during the sessions.



The objective of communication training


The objective of communication training is to help participants to become more confident in terms of them expressing themselves clearly and effectively. During the training the participants are given activities such as role play to help them become more confident.


Secondly to be able to understand what are some of the popular communication styles that is used and how to adjust accordingly. Everyone communicates differently and we need to understand how each styles differs, what are the advantages and disadvantages of those styles.


Thirdly the participants will be trained on how to listen effectively, what are the do’s and don’ts when it comes to listening, when to ask questions and how to ask them to ensure that there is no interruption to the speaker. The participants will also be trained on how to develop empathy and to use empathy as they communicate.


Fourthly, communication training helps participant to build rapport. Rapport is the ability to form connection with another person to ensure that your message gets across and the conversations becomes meaningful as well. Rapport also helps to build trust which then paves the way for you to be able to influence another person.



Key components of communication training


During the communication training participants will be given an opportunity to do public speaking based on a given topic and for them to craft the speech. This is the most fun part of the training, as all the participants are given feedback after their presentation in terms of how they can improve for the future as well.


Participants are taught on the importance of body language and how it plays an important role when we communicate and how to enhance the body language. What is proper body posture to have when you are communicating and how to build influence using your body language and so on.


The participants are also taught on how to be assertive without being arrogant or pushy at the same time to be sensitive to the feelings of those around them. The more effective the person communicates the more stronger they can build connections around them at the same time it helps to usher in more opportunities in their life.


Benefits of communication training


Communication plays a very important role in the workplace and to be able to communicate effectively would help to increase productivity in the workplace. When productivity goes up, the company succeeds and thereby the employees are rewarded accordingly.


Much of organisations struggle because there is no proper communication that is taking place. Everyone thinks that just because they are communicating, they are doing it effectively! unbeknown to them, they are not aware of certain principles and technique which can help them to communicate even better.


When proper communication is happing between an employee or a client, they will always feel understood and valued. However, this will not be the case when someone who is doing the communication lacks communication skills and empathy when addressing a particular situation or a behavior.



Who needs communication training?


I believe that everyone should attend communication training if they are serious about being successful in their life! In the beginning of the article we looked at, how lack of communication skills impact us and how it plays a crucial role especially in terms of you being able to express yourself confidently.


Secondly, if you are in a leadership position and often you get frustrated when you lack influence over others or others are resistant to your leading then getting trained on communication skills helps a lot! It is said that 86% of workplace issues arises because there was no proper communication taking place.


Imagine, if everyone in the workplace gets trained on communication skills that this percentage will be greatly reduced and overall the company will have less issues to deal with internally and can allocate more resources in terms of them serving their customers effectively.
