How To Be More Confident
In his book David J.Schwartz talks about how managed motion can change emotions. In other words, if you feel less confident about yourself, you can change it by changing your physiology. What he says is very valid simply because I have learned them over the years.
Some of the simple things that can be done are :
1. Put your shoulders up instead of in a slouching position.
2. Look a person in the eye.
2. Smile more.
3. Sit or stand straight.
4. Wear clothings that help you feel good.
5. Introduce yourself with a confident handshake.
Some of things that I share here, takes practice, for an example looking in people's eyes was not easy for me in the beginning. I usually avoided looking into people's eyes because I was shy. Later on I realized that it's very important to make eye contact, why?
Firstly, it shows that you are really interested in what the other person has to say. If you are looking elsewhere, you can be distracted and it gives the other person the impression that you are really not interested in listening to them.
Secondly as an NLP Master Practitioner, I assess people's eye movement to know how I can change my communication style accordingly. Each eye movement gives me information of what is the person's primary style of communication is. This is something that I teach in my trainings that I conduct.
Thirdly, by making eye contact you can also better asses their facial expression of how they are processing the information and what is being said by them.
Finally, making eye contact helps you to be more confident and you are also being perceived by the other person to be confident.
Keep practicing some of the above techniques, it certainly made a lot of difference for me, when I communicate.
