Why Preparation is Key to Achieving Success
Anything that you want to do well in life requires preparation. I believe preparation leads to success. From living a healthy live to running a successful business, it requires that you prepare for it. Often, people will think and talk about their dreams and goals but only few prepare for it.
In this article I would like to share with you three important principles that I believe needs to be continuesly evaluated if we are serious about preparing for success and living a fuflfilling life. Success will be different for each one of us but most importantly are we preparing for success in our life?
If I’m not preparing for it, it just simply means that I am not serious about success. A lot of times we say to ourselves in terms of our goals and aspirations in life that “we will look at it, when the time comes” but the reality is the time never comes early. I also often thought like that in the past, until I realized that successful people think differently.
As a motivational speaker, I have spent a lot of time reading books, studying successful people and often reflected of how they prepare to be successful in advance. That means they take the necessary action in a consistent basis and do whatever it takes to prepare for it, in terms of growing their knowledge, skills and experience.
If you are familiar with the book titled “Rich Dad and Poor Dad” by Robert T.Kiyosaki, you will know the story about how Robert’s life was influenced by his friend’s father. He is addressed to be the rich dad in the book. The rich dad shared some principles to both Robert and his son about how to achieve financial independence.
Today, Robert is a well known author and also a person who has achieved financial independence. He teaches others about the principles that he has followed in his life from the rich dad. Robert learned and prepared to be financially independent when he was young.
I personally believe that preparation was one of the keys for him to be successful. Because he was prepared to achieve financial independence, he gained knowledge, experience and kept on improving himself. I wonder how things would have turned out to be in his life if he wasn’t prepared to achieve financial independence.
When I say preparation, I’m not only talking about from the psychological view point but also in terms of effort, time, money and so on. Preparation also means that there will be times that you will have to sacrifice in terms of how you spend your time and money.
How to Make the Most of Your Time for Success
Time is a great and precious asset that needs to be consistently evaluated of how we use it. Time passes us by each second, every second that is passed by cannot be gained back. I can put to better use my time by learning to gain knowledge and experience.
Set a goal for each month to learn something new. It could be buying or borrowing a book from the library to educate yourself on a particular subject. Attend a training in terms of a skill that you might be lacking right now. Listen to podcast, watch educational youtube videos that can help you to prepare for the future.
One of the podcast that I love listening to is from “The School of Greatness” by Lewis Howes. Each week he interviews experts from different field and asks them questions to gain more knowledge and information on a particular subject.
Secondly, if you want to prepare to be successful, eliminate time wasters in your life such as scrolling through social media endlessly, limit your time per day in how much you are spending in social media. On average a person can spend 1 hour by scrolling without even them noticing it.
How to Make the Most of Your Money for Success
Follow a budget that works for you, don’t simply think about it but also take action in line with it. I like what Dave Ramsey said on his Facebook page “if you don’t tell your money where to go, you’re going to wonder where it went.” Dave is an American radio personality who offers financial advice.
Follow a budget and eliminate any part in finance that you think could be put to better use such as maybe frequently eating outside to having home cooked meals. Although eating outside is convenient and easy but is it really healthy and would that habit help you in the long run?
You can put that same money that you are spending at eating places as for some it could be in the hundreds of dollars and invest it for your personal development and up-skilling yourself for the future. Remember, how you spend your money will determine whether you will progress towards your dreams and goals in life or not.
Investing in Yourself for Future Success
Skills is absolutely an important word that needs to be considered when you are preparing for success in your life. Chances are that you might be lacking some skills that you need. A skill gives you leverage because it helps you to become aware of techniques that you can put to use to have better results.
A skill is also something that we get better over time as we practice the techniques and principles consistently. The right skill can do wonders in your life as I still remember how Neuro Linguistic Programming helped me to be more confident and changed the way I think.
Conduct an assessment on yourself and see what are the skills that you require now and what are you going to do about it? It’s important to take action towards it. There are so many resources online and it’s completely up to you to learn what you want to learn.
From my personal experience I have trained people on leadership, communication and other soft skills and towards the end of the training, they always tell me about how much they appreciate the knowledge and the techniques that they learned.
As always, it is my passion in life to help others in terms of sharing what I have learned. It gives me great joy to see how people’s life can change for the better when they learn a new skill and put it into practice. So what’s stopping you from learning a new skill today?
Conclusion
In conclusion, what I would like to say is that if you want to prepare for success in your life, you need to continuously evaluate yourself in terms of how you are spending your time, money and what are you doing to get the skills that you are lacking in your life right now.
The more you pay attention to these areas such as time, money and skills, the more you realise that improvement needs to take place. Everyday is an opportunity for us to be better then who we were the previous day. Make room for improvement and thereby for growth.
